UNIVERSITY CENTER -- In a Tuesday regional game, the SVSU Baseball team hosted the Hillsdale College Chargers at the SVSU Baseball complex. The Chargers would come out with an 8-6 victory, using four home runs to power their way to the win.
Hillsdale took a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning but the Cards responded with a run in the 2nd to make the score 2-1. Seth Stratton got the home team on the board with an RBI single to score Joshua Riggs.
The Chargers opened the 3rd inning with back-to-back solo home runs, pushing their lead to 4-1. Andrew Burke scored in the bottom of the inning on a throwing error, trimming the deficit to 4-2.
After Hillsdale added three more run in the top of the 4th, Stratton knocked-in Riggs for the team's lone run of the inning. That made the score 7-3 in the visitors' favor.
The bottom of the 6th saw Craig Wilson knock a double to right field past the defensive shift, scoring Riggs and cutting into the HC lead at 7-4.
The Chargers got an insurance run in the top of the 9th when Steven Ring hit his second home run of the game, putting the count at 8-4 as the teams entered the bottom of the 9th.
Martin Money walked and was lifted for pinch runner Thomas Loftus and Derrek Clyde later walked with two outs. Collin Winters then dug in at the plate, drilling triple to right center and scoring Loftus and Clyde to make the score 8-6.
The visitors would record the final out next, however, sealing the victory.
Stratton had a hit and two RBI while Winters' two RBI came on his 9th inning triple. Wilson had the RBI double and Riggs added a double, scored three runs and walked in the game. Jacob Mansfield and Clyde had the other hits for the Cardinals. Clyde and Money eached walked twice.
Ian Janssen (0-1) took the loss on the mound, pitching 3.0 innings while allowing four runs on six hits, striking three and walking three. Eric Fritz pitched 5.1 innings of relief and allowed four runs on five hits.

The Cardinals remain at home on Wednesday (Apr. 10), hosting Lawrence Tech University in a non-conference matchup. First pitch will be 3:05 p.m. at the SVSU Baseball Complex.
