JACKSON, Miss. -- The Cardinal Baseball team wrapped up its series on Sunday (Mar. 3) with Missouri S&T in Jackson, Mississippi. Saginaw Valley dropped the third and final game of the series by an 8-5 count.
The Miners were the first to strike in the game, going for two runs in the 3rd, another pair in the 4th and a single run in the 5th inning to take the 5-0 lead.
Saginaw Valley responded with a run in the 6th when Craig Wilson scored on a passed ball and had another in the 7th when Martin Money scored Collin Winters on a sacrifice fly, trimming the deficit to 5-2.
After Missouri S&T pushed another three runs across in the home half of the 7th to make the score 8-2, SVSU tacked-on two runs in the top of the 8th when Andrew Burke and Austin Koin scored on an error. That made the count 8-4 in Missouri S&T's favor.
Money scored a run for the Cards in the top of the 9th, crossing the plate on an error to make the score 8-5. That is what the final would prove to be, with Missouri S&T taking the series.
Winters and Wilson each had two hits in the contest while Money had a hit and the team's only RBI. Derrek Clyde had a hit and two walks as well.
Kyle Henigan (1-1) took the loss on the bump, allowing four runs on five hits while striking-out four and walking three.
