Baseball bounces back with nightcap win over Missouri S&T

JACKSON, Miss. -- The SVSU Baseball team defeated the Missouri S&T Miners in the second game of a regional doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 2) afternoon, claiming a 6-2 victory after dropping the first contest by a 17-3 score. 

Game 1

The Cardinals got single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings from Derrek Clyde and Craig Wilson but found themselves down 11-2 after three full innings. The team's third and final run came in the top of the 6th when Jordan Swiss ripped an RBI double that plated Wilson for another run. 

Missouri S&T would close-out the win with single runs in the 6th and 7th and four the in 8th, finishing the 17-3 victory.

Wilson went 4-4 in the game with two runs scored. Martin Money had a pair of doubles. Camden Dice (0-3) took the loss on the hill, allowing seven runs (4 ER) in the first inning. 

Game 2

The Cardinals responded nicely in the nightcap, jumping right out front with four runs in the top of the first as Joshua Riggs had an RBI, Wilson drove home two and Riggs later scored on a double-steal to give the visitors a 4-0 edge.

After the Miners answered with two runs in the home half, SVSU used an RBI single from Money to score Collin Winters for the 5-2 lead. Winters would later score on a wild pitch for the final run of the game in the top of the 7th and the Cards sealed the 6-2 victory over S&T. 

Swiss finished 3-5 with a pair of RBI while Wilson had another two doubles with a pair of runs driven-in. Money was 2-4 with a double and RBI as well. Wilson had three steals in the game while Winters and Swiss added two-apiece.

Amani Godfrey (2-1) collected the victory on the mound after working 7 strong innings, striking-out 11 batters and allowing just two earned runs. Jacob Crossan and Swiss worked the final two scoreless innings for the Cards.
