Cardinals Fall in Finale Contest to the Timberwolves

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Cardinals fell in their finale contest against the Northwood Timberwolves, 8-6, Sunday (May 6) afternoon, in the conclusion of the regular season contest. 

Northwood opened up the top of the first with a solo run, but was unable to score again until the sixth inning where four more runs were scored. 

They continued scoring into the eighth inning where they notched three more runs to finalize the NU count at eight runs. This was the first game of the series where SVSU held the team to below 10 runs. 

The Timberwolves held the SVSU Baseball to a scoreless game until the bottom of the eighth inning. 

Jordan Swiss reached first on an error by the NU pitcher, sending Gerrit Eding across the plate. 

Another error came from the short stop on Collin Winters hit, plating Derrek Clyde, unearned. 

Dean Marais notched a single up the middle with two runners on, making the score 8-3 against the Timberwolves. 

Adam Fitzgibbon then flew out to right field, SAC fly, scoring Winters.

In the bottom of the ninth, Eding grounded out to shortstop, scoring Andrew Burke

The final count for SVSU Baseball team came from a sac fly from Clyde, scoring Craig Wilson

The Cardinals went on to fall in the ninth, 8-6, to the Northwood Timberwolves. 

Brandon Wise (L, 3-4) took the loss for the Cardinals after pitching 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts. 

Max Bain (W, 5-0) ended with the win for the NU Timberwolves, working 6 innings, striking out five.
