SVSU Baseball Falls in Series Finale to the Lakers

ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Cardinal Baseball team completed the four-game series against Grand Valley with a loss Sunday (Apr. 29) afternoon, 7-4. The Lakers end the weekend with a series win, 3-1, over SVSU. 

In the top of the first inning, Quincy Jones reached on an error by the Laker leftfielder, RBI, plating Derrek Clyde, unearned. GVSU responded with one run to tie up the contest at the closing of the second inning, 1-1. 

Centerfielder for SVSU, Adam Fitzgibbon, sacrifice fly ended up scoring Jordan Swiss for the Cardinals to take back the lead 2-1 over the Lakers. Although, Grand Valley responded once agian with a RBI single to knot up the score 2-2 at the conclusion of the third inning. 

As SVSU headed back to the top of the lineup in the fourth inning, Clyde sent a RBI single down the rightfield line, scoring left fielder Todd Paperd. Swiss then flied out to centerfield, plating teammate Gerrit Eding.

In the bottom of the sixth, GVSU knocked a solo run to cut the lead to one for Saginaw Valley. 

The Cardinals led 4-3 until the bottom of the seventh where the Lakers knocked back the tying run on a sac fly to rightfield. They continued to rack up the runs in the seventh, with a RBI double and a two-run homer, to finalize the count for the contest. 

Grand Valley took the finale win, 7-4 and the series, 3-1. 

Brandon Wise pitched majority of the contest, striking out two and walking one batter. Although, Eric Fritz (L, 2-2) took the loss for the Cardinals, pitching .2 innings with one strikeout. 

Tate Brawley (W, 5-1) ended with the win for Grand Valley, wokring 7.2 innings with four strikeouts and one walk.

The SVSU Baseball team is back in action at home to finish up the regular conferene season with a four-game series against the Northwood Timberwolves beginnig on Friday (May 4) at 4 p.m.
