SVSU Drops Twinbill at Wayne State

DETRIOT — The SVSU Baseball team took on the Warriors of Wayne State this Saturday (Apr. 21) afternoon, falling in both contests of the double header. Saginaw Valley fell in game one, 7-2 and then again in game two, 8-nil. 

Game One: WSU 7 - SVSU 2

During the opening game of the day, Wayne State added a sac fly scoring one, unearned, to lead 1-0 over the Cardinals.

The score remained the same until the Warriors placed one in the top of the third. 

Saginaw Valley responded when Craig Wilson reached first on a fielder's choice. Derrek Clyde then went on to  double to left center, RBI, plating Wilson to chop the lead in half at the bottom of three, 2-1.

In the bottom fourth, Quincy Jones lined into double play, sacrifice fly, RBI; scoring teammate Adam Fitzgibbon, to tie up the score, 2-2. 

During the final inning of play, SVSU's Mason Schwellenbach earned two outs before their was a switch on the mound and senior lefty pitcher, Brian Fienhauer came in to close for the Cardinals. 

Feinauer struggled on the mound to find the strike zone, allowing three walks, a wild pitch, a hit by the pitch, a passed ball and a three-run homer, in the top of the seventh. The Warriors went on to score five runs in the inning to secure the victory, 7-2, over Saginaw Valley. 

SVSU ended up with two runs off of seven hits and had two errors in game one of th DH. 

Schwellenbach (3-5) took the loss for the Cardinals after working 6.2 innings, with three strikeouts, two walks and only two earned runs. 

Game Two: WSU 8 - SVSU 0

Saginaw Valley State struggled in game two of the doubleheader, allowing the Warriors to post eight runs over the seven inning game. 

Collin Winters and Jordan Swiss had the only two hits for the Cardinals, as well as a solo stolen base from Todd Paperd

Alex Millhisler (L, 1-6) ended the evening with a loss after pitching five complete innings, notching seven strikeouts and only three walks. 

Eric Fritz added two innings, strikingout two batters.
