Kirksville, MO — After defeating Truman State in Saturday's doubleheader, the Bulldogs bounced back to take game three of the series, 4-3, followed by a 7-3 finale victory. The teams split the series 2-2 as the Cardinals head to a 13-6 record heading into the conference opener this week.
Game One: TSU 4, SVSU 3
With a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Cardinals found home after Dean Marais's RBI single to left field scored Cole Brooks to go up 1-0. Derrek Clyde followed with a RBI single to third base, plating Marais, to push the lead to 2-0 in the top of the second.
Truman State found success in the second inning as well, putting three on the scoreboard to lead, 3-2.
Todd Paperd flied out to center field on a RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth, sending Brooks home to knot up the score 3-3. This would become the final scoring inning for the Cardinals.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Bulldogs plated one to finalize the score, 4-3.
After quiet fifth, sixth and seventh innings, Truman State went on to take the game three victory over Saginaw Valley.
Mason Schwellenbach (2-2) took the loss for the SVSU after pitching a complete game, striking out five and walking two out of the 28 batters faced.
Even with the loss, the Cardinals held onto the series lead, 2-1.
Game Two: TSU 7, SVSU 3
The Cardinals were off to a hot start in the first inning, loading the bases with the first three batters in the lineup. Jordan Swiss found himself up to the plate and grounded out to third base, RBI, advancing Adam Fitzgibbon to second, Craig Wilson to third and plating Clyde, to go up 1-0 over the Bulldogs.
Cole Brooks's RBI sac fly, brought Wilson to score and SVSU to increase their lead to 2-0 heading into the bottom of the first.
Truman state responded by posting a total of four runs between the second and third inning, three earned, to take back the lead 4-2 over Saginaw Valley.
Pitcher Brandon Wise finished his work after four complete innings, striking out three and allowing seven hits. Right-handed pitcher, Brian Feinhauer, made his first appearance of the weekend in the bottom of the fifth.
The count remained at a stand still until the top of the seventh where Fitzgibbon's RBI single to center field, scored Wilson, unearned. The Cardinals trailed by one going into the eighth inning after another quiet inning for Truman State.
Feinhauer made his exit from the mound during the eighth inning after working three innings, striking out six, walking two, and allowing three earned runs. Grant Jebbia returned to the mound for the Cardinals to close, notching three strikeouts.
Saginaw Valley State could not tack on any runs in the top of the ninth, finalizing the count at 7-3. Wise (1-1) takes his first loss of the season for the Cardinals.
The teams end the weekend with a split series, 2-2. SVSU falls to a 13-6 record, while TSU notches two wins to head to 6-13.

Saginaw Valley will take on Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio, for the GLIAC home opener. The teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. and a second doubleheader on Friday starting at noon. Live stats, audio and video, will be available at this weekends contest.
