Swiss, Ellenbest Highlight All-GLIAC Baseball Honorees

BAY CITY - Saginaw Valley State University baseball student-athletes Jordan Swiss and Michael Ellenbest were each named to the 2016 All-GLIAC First Team for their performance to headline the honorees for the Cardinals. Swiss was also named the league's Freshman of the Year after a breakout freshman campaign for SVSU. Junior starting pitcher Scott Sency and freshman outfielder Adam Fitzgibbon were named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team as well.

Swiss had an outstanding 2016 campaign to begin his career in a Cardinal uniform. The Petoskey, Michigan native led the Cardinals and all GLIAC freshmen with a .351 batting average, posting a team-high 59 hits with a pair of home runs, a team-high 12 doubles, a triple and 29 RBIs.  Swiss scored 30 runs as well for SV while starting all 50 games. 

Ellenbest, the 2015 GLIAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year and Second Team All-GLIAC honoree, went 5-4 this season while posting a 3.52 ERA and 53 strikeouts in his 69.0 innings pitched.  He ranked fifth in the league in both ERA and innings pitched. 

Sency was 5-4 as well for 2016 as a starting pitcher. The 2015 Second Team All-GLIAC member posted 70 strikeouts in just 63.1 innings, notching an ERA of 4.97. He had a tally of 9.95 strikeouts per game. That figure ranked him fourth in the league and his 70 punchouts were fifth. His four complete games also put him at the no. 5 spot in the GLIAC.

Fitzgibbon had a fantastic freshman season while patroling center field for the Cardinals this year. He hit .314 with six doubles, three triples and eight stolen bases while scoring 27 times.
