UNIVERSITY CENTER - Coming off a Saturday split with Northwood, the SVSU baseball team had the same result in Sunday's doubleheader. SVSU dropped the opener by a 6-4 count in nine innings but bounced-back for a 1-0 nine inning victory in the nightcap after Kyle Randick belted a walk-off home run for the win.

Game One

SVSU took a 1-0 advantage in the home half of the second inning when Jordan Swiss ripped an RBI single to score Garrett Soule.

Northwood answered with three runs in the top of the fourth, grabbing a 3-1 lead.

Swiss would strike again for the Cards in the bottom of the fourth, as he had a two-RBI double that plated Soule and Chad Carson and knotted the score at 3-3.

The score remained there through seven innings of play and the next score would come in the top of the ninth, as the Timberwolves scored a trio of runs to make the count 6-3.

A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth would make the score 6-4 when SV cut the deficit as Dylan Schultz earned the free pass and Soule scored again. That would be the end of the scoring, however, as the T-Wolves secured the victory.

Inside the Boxscore

• Swiss was 3-for-3 in the game and he posted three RBIs.
• Carson added three hits as well with a run scored.
• Soule scored three runs and notched a pair of hits for the Cards.
• Michael Ellenbest pitched the first 8.0 innings in the start, allowing three runs on just a pair of hits with three strikeouts. He walked six batters in the outing.
• Jake Tarbell (0-4) took the loss, allowing three runs in the ninth inning.
• The Cardinals out-hit the Timberwolves by a 10-5 mark.

Game Two

The second game of the day went scoreless through the first 8 1/2 innings despite several scoring opportunities for both sides.

The lone run scored was in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Randick came up clutch for SVSU when he led-off the frame with a walk-off home run deep over the left field fence to seal the 1-0 victory. 

Inside the Boxscore

• Randick's game-winner was his second career home run and second of the season.
• Saginaw Valley had just three hits in the second game, with Brendan Harrison registering the other two for the Cardinals.
• Bailey Magsig had a solid start, working 6.1 innings and allowing no runs on seven hits. He posted four strikeouts and walked four batters.
• Andrew Tidwell pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for SVSU and didn't allow a hit or walk.
• Jacob Hendricks (1-0) picked up his first victory of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. He allowed no hits or walks and notched one strikeout.

Up Next...

The Cardinals hit the road Tuesday (May 3) for a GLIAC doubleheader at the University of Findlay. First pitch for the opening contest is set for 2:00 p.m. in Ohio. The teams split the earlier matchup this season on April 12.
