HILLSDALE - The SVSU baseball team dropped a pair of games at Hillsdale College on Sunday afternoon, falling in the opener by a narrow 5-4 margin in the bottom of the seventh before dropping a 12-5 decision in the nightcap.

Game One

The Chargers put up two runs in the home half of the second inning to grab the 2-0 lead but SVSU would score the next four, notching two runs in the third and fourth, respectively, to make the score 4-2 in their advantage. The Cardinals got a two-run home run from Carson Eby in the third that scored Adam Turner and the fourth saw Turner drive in Chad Carson and Kyle Randick with a single.

Hillsdale got a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to knot the score at 4-4. 

That lead held true all the way until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Chargers would get a chance to respond. They would, using a lead-off walk and double to finish the game ahead, 5-4.

Inside the Boxscore

• Eby had his second home run in as many days, giving him two now for his SVSU career. 
• Turner had two hits, a pair of RBIs and a run scored for the Cardinals.
• Chad Carson added a pair of base knocks as well, including a double with a run scored.
• Scott Sency (4-3) took the loss on the bump, working 6.0 innings and allowing five runs on nine hits. He posted nine strikeouts as well for the visitors.

Game Two

The Cards came right out in the nightcap and claimed a 1-0 lead after a Carson RBI single pushed Fitzgibbon across the plate. 

Hillsdale responded with a single run of its own in the first to tie the game at 1-1. The same pattern happened in the third inning, with each team pushing a run across to make the score 2-2. SVSU's run in that frame came on a squeeze play from Garrett Soule to score Eby.

The Chargers would add two more in the fourth inning, extending their lead to 4-2. They would then go for six runs in the sixth to push the lead to 10-2 and another two in the bottom of the eighth to make it 12-3 after the Cardinals got a run from a Randick home run over the center field fence in the top half of the inning. 

Saginaw Valley added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning, using a Brendan Harrison two-RBI single that plated Dylin Eschenburg and D.J. Arnold to make the score 12-5. That's where the final score would remain, as the Chargers completed the weekend sweep.

Inside the Boxscore

• Randick's long ball was the first of his career at SVSU. 
• Luke Valutis, Fitzgibbon and Jordan Swiss all had two hits in the second game. 
• Harrison had the base hit and two RBIs.
• Carson and Soule had the other RBIs for the Cardinals. 
• Michael Ellenbest (4-4) got the start on the hill and took the loss. He allowed eight earned runs on 11 hits, striking out three batters in his 5.0 innings of work.
