UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The SVSU baseball team hosted Grand Valley State University in the team's first home doubleheader of the 2016 season. After posting a 9-1 victory in the opener, the Cardinals dropped a 4-1 decision in the second game at the SVSU Baseball Complex.

Game One

After the Lakers got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, SVSU responded with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to grab a 4-1 edge. An Adam Turner RBI single scored Richard Guglielmi and that would be followed by an Adam Fitzgibbon RBI single that plated Carson Eby. A Chad Carson RBI single scored Turner and a Garrett Soule fielder's choice pushed Nate Blackwell across for the fourth run.

Saginaw Valley added another two runs in its half of the third inning, as an Eby RBI double scored Guglielmi and Turner put a ball in play that scored Eby after a Laker error. That made the score 6-1.

The bottom of the sixth inning featured another trio of runs from the Cards to push the lead out to 9-1. A Soule bunt single knocked-in Blackwell and Fitzgibbon scored right behind him on the throw to first. A balk would allow Carson to score later in the inning for the final run of the game.

The Cardinals cut the deficit to 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth, as Carson drove-in Greg Kazmierski for the home team's first run.

The score would stay there and the Lakers closed-out for the three-run victory.
