SVSU Baseball Defeats Ashland in Game Two of Weekend Series

ASHLAND, Ohio - SVSU's baseball team defeated Ashland in game two on Saturday afternoon, evening up the weeekend series in non-conference action.

The Cardinals took the lead early on, scoring two runs at the top of the first inning. Carson Eby hit a grounder to score Chad Carson, followed by Dylin Eschenburg, who was batted-in by Brendan Harrison.

Saginaw Valley scored again at the top of the fifth when Garrett Soule hit a bases-clearing triple, bringing in Eby, Carson and Harrison.

Jordan Swiss was brought home by an Eschenburg base knock in the sixth inning, putting the Cardinals up 6-0. Swiss's run was the last for the Cards.

Ashland scored its only runs of the game in the bottomof the ninth, notching in two runs before the game ended with Saginaw Valley leading 6-2.

Inside the Boxscore

  • Harrison went 2-of-5 ,plating a run and scoring another.
  • Eschenburg and Eby each posted a single RBI and Soule hit a triple  that scored three.
  • Michael Ellenbest (2-2) pitched the first seven innings, allowing no runs, walking three and striking out six in the winning effort.
  • Jack Ferguson tossed the last two, allowing two runs on three hits.
  • Saginaw Valley had seven hits in the contest.
