Cardinals Fall Twice at Northwood

MIDLAND - The SVSU baseball team fell twice at Northwood University in GLIAC action on Saturday (Apr. 25) afternoon.  The Cardinals fell in the opener by a 3-0 margin before losing by a 6-3 score in game two.

Game One

The game's only scoring came in the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Timberwolves plated three runs to make the score 3-0, which is what the final count would be.

Of SVSU's six hits in the first game, Chad Carson went 3-for-3 and Kyle Kaufmann was 2-for-3.

Scott Sency (5-2) took just his second loss of the season while working 5.0 innings, allowing three runs while striking-out four batters.

Game Two

The Cardinals responded to a pair of Northwood runs in the bottom of the second inning with a run in the top of the third inning when Chris Perkovich scored on a wild pitch to make the score 2-1.

The Timberwolves added two more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to extend the lead ot 5-1.

A Perkovich sacrifice fly to score Luke Valutis and a Carson RBI single cut the deficit to 5-3 in the sixth inning.  

Another Northwood run in the eighth inning made the score 6-3, which is where the final score would stay.

SVSU had seven hits in game two, with Perkovich and Carson each registering an RBI.  Carson added two walks in the game.

Bailey Magsig (1-3) took the loss on the hill in game two, tossing 5.0 innings while allowing five runs on seven hits.

Saginaw Valley (15-18-1, 10-15-1 GLIAC) takes on the Timberwolves on Sunday (Apr. 26) in another GLIAC doubleheader, with first pitch set for noon at Northwood.
