Cardinals Fall to Lake Erie in GLIAC Tourney, 6-1

XENIA, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team fell in its second game of the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Baseball Tournament to the Lake Erie College Storm by a score of 6-1.

It was a matchup between the #3 seeded Storm and the #5 Cardinals, as both teams opened the tournament on Thursday with victories over Tiffin and Wayne State, respectively.

Lake Erie took a 2-0 lead over the Cards in the bottom of the second inning after an RBI double and RBI single.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Storm added another trio of runs to extend the lead to 5-0.

A leadoff walk, followed by a triple in the seventh inning gave Lake Erie another run, making the score 6-0.

In the top of the eighth, Connor Foley knocked a single up the middle for Saginaw Valley.  Michael Craig laid down a bunt single two batters later, and an errant throw by the pitcher allowed Craig to reach second and Foley to come all the way around to score.  That cut the deficit to 6-1.

That would be all the damage done by the Cards offensively in the game, as the Storm would close-out for the victory to set up a matchup with #1 seed Grand Valley State University Saturday morning at 10:30 am.

Foley was 2-for-3 and scored the only run for Saginaw Valley in the contest.

Dylan Wisniewski took the loss on the mound, working 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking-out three.

The loss for SVSU sets up a re-match with #2 seed Wayne State University Saturday at 2:00 pm.  The Cardinals defeated the Warriors in the first game of the tournament by a score of 15-13.
