Geese Records 11 Strikeouts; Cardinals Fall 3-1

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team started off the final day of their season opening 2013 Clearwater Invitational with a tough 3-1 loss to Walsh University.

After four scoreless innings of a pitching duel between the Cardinals and Cavaliers, Kyle O'Boyle (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) connected on his second hit of the contest with an RBI double down the left field line. The extra base hit scored Chris Perkovich to give SVSU the 1-0 edge.

Walsh tied up the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh with an unearned run.

Despite another stellar starting pitching performance from Andrew Geese (Saginaw, Mich. / Carrolton), Saginaw Valley was unable to post any more offense and fell by a 3-1 final.

Geese threw all eight innings allowing just one earned run while striking out 11 batters to pick up a hard-luck loss. Geese surrendered with seven hits and two walks.

Senior Kyle O'Boyle went 3-for-3 with two doubles and the lone RBI for the Cardinals as he snapped out of his hitless streak.

The Cardinals will end their Florida trip with a nine inning contest against Tiffin University at 1:00 p.m. at Jack Russell Stadium.
