Coulter, Schwanz Amongst National Leaders in ERA, Batting Average

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University baseball players Colin Coulter (Clio, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) and Brandon Schwanz (Novi, Mich./Henry Ford CC) are amongst the national leaders in earned run average (ERA) and batting average, respectively.

Coulter, a senior starting pitcher on the baseball squad, is off to a perfect 4-0 start on the season in his four starts. Colin's 0.67 ERA leads the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and is the 5th best (as of Apr. 1) in NCAA Division II, allowing just two earned runs in 27 innings of work. Coulter has thrown three complete games this season and scattered 21 hits while striking out 20 batters.

Schwanz, a senior left fielder, has participated in 15 contests so far in 2012, batting in the one or two hole in the Cardinal lineup. Brandon is very productive at the plate going 22-of-44 for a .500 batting average, which leads the GLIAC and is good for 3rd in the country. Schwanz has recorded 11 runs and five RBI as well as one triple this season.

The Cardinals sit atop the GLIAC at 7-1 after two weeks of conference play and will face off against Northwood University today (Apr. 4) starting at 2:00 pm before a homestand against Grand Valley State University this Friday (Apr. 6) and Saturday (Apr. 7).
