UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw
Valley State and Northwood University baseball teams are gearing up
for one of the biggest events of the season as they get ready to
square off in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Saturday (May 2) in the
“Battle at The Diamond” at Dow Diamond.
Saginaw Valley and Northwood students will receive free admission
with proper student identification, and children who are wearing
youth baseball and softball jerseys will get in for $1. General
admission is $5. Students and children also will have a chance to
run the bases between games.
Earlier this season, the Cardinals were swept in a two-game
stretch by the Timberwolves at the SVSU Athletic Complex, 6-4, 3-0.
The Cardinals are hoping the change of venue will give them
momentum to win their next three games against Northwood to win the
season series, 3-2.
This season, the Cardinals are ranked sixth in the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with a record of
12-15-1 in conference play, and an overall record of 16-24-1. The
Timberwolves are sitting in fourth place, going 14-14 in the GLIAC
and 20-19 overall.
Dow Diamond, located in Midland, Mich., is home to the Single-A
Great Lakes Loons.
