Meemic Insurance Student-Athlete Spotlight - Katelyn Carriere

Meemic Insurance Student-Athlete Spotlight Feature - Katelyn Carriere | SVSU Women's Basketball Student-Athlete

Our December Meemic Insurance Student-Athlete Spotlight Feature for the 2016-17 academic year highlights senior women's basketball student-athlete, Katelyn Carriere. Katelyn is currently in her final season as a guard on the team and has led the Lady Cardinals to a great start for the season.

Carriere has been nothing shy of impressive in the early goings this season. She is averaging a career-best 15.2 points per game, shooting 42.2% from the floor and 38.1% from beyond the arc for the 6-2 Cardinals. The team is currently ranked 24th in the nation for Division II and sits atop the GLIAC North Division, which it won in 2015-16. Katelyn has been stellar in the classroom as well over the course of her career. She carries a 3.697 GPA as an exercise science major and is set to graduate this spring.

SVSU Head Coach Jamie Pewinski on Katelyn Carriere...

"Katelyn has been a model of hard work and consistency during her time at SVSU. She came here in the first class we recruited and has had a major part in helping turn the program into a winner. We have talked a lot about being a leader and establishing our culture, and KC continues to make sure that she sets the example for her teammates. Off the court, she is an excellent student and works equally as hard in the classroom as she does on the court. To all of us who have been around Katelyn, it is not a surprise that she has had a successful basketball career and will have much more success in the future."

We caught up with Katelyn this week to discuss her career here at Saginaw Valley State and touch on what she will take with her when her career as an SVSU women's basketball player is complete...
