UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University is well represented in the national rankings for all six sports that are currently in-season for the winter portion of the 2016-17 academic year. All of the sports are currently listed inside the top-32 nationally, highlighted by the men's basketball current top national ranking of No. 1 in the NABC Top 25 poll. The men's soccer team also appeared Tuesday at No. 18 in the country in the final NSCAA rankings.

The men's basketball team is now 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC and travel to Ashland University for a Thursday (Dec. 8) night 7:30 p.m. game and Tiffin on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. contest.

SVSU women's basketball moves back into the WBCA Top 25 Coaches poll after registering two league wins over this past weekend, upping the team's record to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC. the ladies also play at Ashland on Thursday (5:30 p.m.) and against Tiffin on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).

The women's and men's indoor track and field teams appeared at the No. 20 and No. 21 spots in the USTFCCCA Preseason Top 25 polls, respectively, and look to remain in the rankings after a stellar showing at the SVSU-hosted Holiday Classic over the weekend. The Cardinals return to the oval on Saturday, January 14, when they host the SVSU Classic.  The teams look to carry over momentum from the men's cross country team's 10th place finish at the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championships.

In swimming and diving, Saginaw Valley ranks 28th on the men's side and 32nd for the women in the collegeswimming.com rankings after their start to the 2016-17 campaign. They are also off until the 14th of January, when the squads travel to Ashland University to take-on the Eagles and the Hillsdale Chargers in GLIAC competition.
