Meemic Insurance Student-Athlete Spotlight - Kelly Vellucci

Meemic Insurance Student-Athlete Spotlight Feature - Kelly Vellucci | SVSU Volleyball Student-Athlete

Our first Meemic Insurance Student-Athlete Spotlight Feature of the 2016-17 academic year highlights senior volleyball student-athlete, Kelly Vellucci. Vellucci is currently in the midst of her final season competing for the Cardinals and we had the pleasure of getting some insight from her on her time here at Saginaw Valley State University.

The 5-11 setter from Livonia, Michigan is very accomplished on the court for SVSU, as she recently became the program's all-time leader in assists at the 2016 Midwest Region Crossover Tournament with 3,503 total and eight regular season matches still to play. She earned First Team All-GLIAC honors in 2015 and was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team in her sophomore season of 2014. Vellucci led the Cardinals to the program's fourth appearance in the NCAA Division II National Tournament, as the team participated in the 2015 tourney with her as the setter. The business management major also gets it done in the classroom, carrying a 3.436 cumulative GPA into her final semester of her academic career.

Kelly has been a member of the Saginaw Valley State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as well for the past five years. As a member of SAAC, Vellucci has been instrumental in organizing many community engagement efforts and is currently serving as the promotions chair for the committee.

SVSU Head Coach Will Stanton on Kelly Vellucci...

"Kelly has developed into one of the top setters in the region over her career here at SVSU. She is one of the most competitive players that we have had in the program and her desire to compete and find ways to win has raised our level of play as a team in the past two years. This year, she has really developed her leadership skills, and that has made her a much more complete player. Her knowledge of the game and her strategic approach to the position allows her to run the offense in ways that maximize the hitters that we have. That allows the team to be greater than the sum of its parts."
