SVSU Breast Cancer Survivor and Recognition Event

February 10, 2018

Saginaw Valley State University Athletics hosted the 10th annual breast cancer survivor reception and recognition event on Saturday, February 10. The event was held in conjunction with a home basketball doubleheader contest against Northern Michigan University during the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Pink Wave Week.

A reception was held before the game with 25 Breast Cancer Survivors from the Great Lakes Bay Region. This reception recognizes and celebrates their journey of courage, hope and faith.  To date, this event has raised over $30,000 for regional community members in need of breast care services.

All proceeds from the sale of promotional items, including but not limited to t-shirts and other commemorative gifts were donated to St. Mary's of Michigan Seton Cancer Institute Breast Care Fund. The St. Mary's of Michigan Breast Care Fund provides mammograms and follow-up ultrasounds for qualified uninsured and underinsured patients.

This event is made possible by the generous contributions of our Cardinal athletics volunteers, student-athletes and sponsors including: Dr. Ernie & Leanne Balcueva & Family, Saginaw Radiotherapy Associates, P.C., Catholic Federal Credit Union and Mitchell Motorcoach. Additional support and the reception is being provided by Cardinal Deli.
